So Long Randall, Day 2

Here's the second-day demolition of Randall Hall on the campus of New Hampton School just down the road. As of 5 PM this afternoon they are 1/3 of the way thru the building.

Some background-Randall Hall was one of the original buildings of the New Hampton School at their original campus in the 1850s, which was located about 2 miles from downtown New Hampton. When the school moved their campus "downtown" a few years later, Randall Hall was disassembled, brick by brick, moved downtown, and rebuilt. It was then a dormitory for the school for decades.

However, it was always a fire-trap, and the only thing that prevented a major fire was a sprinkler system. The 3rd and 4th floors later became legendary in the early 1970s as the druggiest areas of the entire school. As day students, us locals were given a suite of rooms, actually an apartment with a living room, kitchen and bathroom, to abuse from 1970 til 1972.

The school stopped using Randall as a dorm years ago, and it was basically wasted space. It also was architecurally totally out of place with the other 3 brick school buildings that were in the same "front row" of the campus, as all of the others were more compact "squat" designs, and Randall was a big ugly rectangular box.
