I always pause and take a picture of "Loon Island" on Newfound Lake when I get a chance-this is one of only two or three islands on the entire lake (which is regularly rated right up there with Lake Geneva in Switzerland as one of the purest lakes on the planet, mainly because of its relatively great depth at the middle and also its water sources). It's also the only non-bridged island on Newfound with a real house on it.
I have long called this "Garrity Island" as it had for years been owned by a former real estate colleague named Bob Garrity, who last I heard was selling condos up at Loon Mountain. I haven't seen Bob for a few years but will have to ask him if he's still the island landlord.
Notice how this winter's record snowfall has resulted in the island appearing to "sink" below lake level! Nice scud clouds as well...
