Happy B-Day Prince Kuhio

A belated (Wednesday) Happy Birthday to Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Piikoi, who served as Hawaii’s second congressional delegate from 1903 until his death in 1922. His presence is still felt all over the islands. I even had to cross his namesake Kalanianaiole Highway to get to school every day (a pedestrian bridge has since replaced this dangerous crossing). His birthday is pretty much a day off for everyone in the Islands, even schoolkids.
