Some of us were lucky enough to see the "first" incarnation of the John McLaughlin-led Mahavishnu Orchestra at the peak of their powers in the early 1970s; this band also included former Flock violinist Jerry Goodman, bassist Rick Laird, future "Miami Vice" composer and keyboardist Jan Hammer, and the always-amazing Billy Cobham on Fibes drums.
