Closing In On a Record

The "Winter From Hell" keeps rolling merrily along-we now are awaiting an additional 4 to 8 inches of Global Warming which will start shortly after midnight tonight. Total so far here on Saddle Hill since December 1 2007: 169 inches.

The "official" state records for weather are recorded at CON in the State capitol of Concord, which is 30 miles further south but more importantly 700 feet lower in elevation than where I have been measuring. Going into this event, they have recorded 112 inches, and only need 10 more inches to break the alltime record set in the 1870s. It should also be noted that CON airport, where the snowfall is measured, is in an urbanized area with a "heat island" effect, so their snowfall amounts circa 2008 are probably less than when the airport was first built.
