Mr. Telecaster

Back in 2005, at the Lowell (MA) Folk Festival, I got a chance to not only take pictures like this one but also actually shake hands and talk story with this guy, Bill Kirchen. Bill was the guitarist with Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen back in the 1970s, and for many years now has been ripping it up with his trio "Too Much Fun". Bill is a major NRBQ friend, as he was one of the performers at the infamous "Wild Weekend" NRBQ convention in Connecticut in the early 2000s.

Bill's show-stopper is a lengthy cover of "Hot Rod Lincoln", where he dredges up guitar licks from some 30 or 40 great guitarists. But here's a look at one of his more recent tunes, "Hammer of the Honky Tonk Gods", as performed last night at the annual SXSW Festival in Austin. Enjoy!
