Fire On the Mountain

"RUMNEY – A 26-day old peregrine falcon chick and its parents, nesting on Main Cliff in sight of a forest fire that has burned 54 acres on Rattlesnake Mountain, are fine, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

On Saturday, more than 60 firefighters, along with two helicopters, a bulldozer and three fire engines, battled the blaze that began Wednesday afternoon in the White Mountain National Forest.

The good news is that the blaze has not encroached on the falcons' scrape (nest), according to Clare Long, public information officer with the forest service. Some smoke blew over it, she said, but it was not heavy smoke."
