Back in the mid 1990s, the fine folks of Northfield, NH created the state's first "Artificial Wildlife Sanctuary" just off of Interstate 93. This was in protest of the state removing a small hill and its trees near the Northfield exit, in order to create an "artificial wetland". They decided that an artificial wetland required artificial wildlife, and the rest is history.
