On this day in 1922 in (where else?) Lowell, Massachusetts, a very funny fellow named Ray Goulding was born. He died 68 years and 4 days later after teaming with a guy named Bob Elliott to form one of the funniest comedy teams ever, Bob and Ray. B & R started on Boston radio, and then moved to NBC Radio in New York, and the rest is history. Ray is on the right in the pic.One of their best recurring themes was a radio soap opera called "Mary Backstayge, Noble Wife", an episode of which chronicled a memorable bus trip they took up US Route 3 to...Meredith, New Hampshire.
